How the world turns...

Last week the Department of State issued a warning stating that adoptions in Guatemala could be halted as early as Dec. 31,2007. Whether this is fair or not, this states the fact that 3,000 to 5,000 children could be in danger of not being united with familes. There is no master list that manages all of these children, and the state run facilities are not able to take a massive influx of additional children should this occur.

Please consider all of these children in limbo, not just for the parents, nor the foster parents, but the birth mothers. I have to believe a mother would only give up her child in the hopes that their child could find themselves in the arms of a loving family which could provide for them greater opportunities. We are many able, loving and patient families waiting to do this each and every day for these children. And now we find ourselves threatened with the dispute that can only be brought to light by the actions of two governments working together.

Call, write, fax or e-mail your senator and representative and ask them to work with the Dept. of Stat's Office of Children's Issues and beg them to support those Americans who are in process of adopting children. They need to work with the Guatemalan government to secure the adoptions for those children that are matched with families and allow them to come home.


E-mail guatemala5000@jcics.org and send them an e-mail supporting intercountry adoption. This e-mail petition will be used in Joint Councils advocacy for Intercountry Adoption. Be brief of be lengthy, but let them know you support this cause for the children.
