Beyond all Words

We just just made it back home today, and I feel already a sadness for leaving Guatemala behind. Not only Mariela, but the patient nannies, the on-time taxi drivers which would always give you the full details of anything you asked about, the best guatemlan food at La Fonda de la Calle Real, and the tuk-tuks on cobblestone streets.

This is our first picture of her in person, which lasted a mere 8 minutes or so before we awoke the crazy, little beast. She is the class clown, who entertains herself. She is the last one to bed at night - the nannies have to keep her in the swing, until she falls asleep, otherwise she wakes up her cribmates. She also likes to use her bunk mates as pillows (hope she grows out of that habit!)

Her least favorite attire was the outfit that took days to coordinate. She hated the tights and kept pushing one shoe off with her other foot. Needless to say, she also prefers her a la natural syle hairdo. We took a few pictures of her in it, and then she went back into the staple of loungewear and pajamas.

We luckily got to spend one night with her, waking up every few hours and getting the crash course on parenthood. Thanks to the flu shot given just that day, it made the experience much more realistic. And bless her heart, she really did dwell and squeezed in a lot of sleep unlike the both of us.



The secret we found out to the hair is... (drum role, pleae) BABY LOTION. I guess there it is a multipurpose type of tool, sort of like Windex for house cleaning. Anyway, this is the picture that wins best hair award (and it is not MINE, since it was raining everyday in Antigua).

Sad, but true, she is already daddy's little girl.

We miss Mariela already, but know she is in perfect hands for the time being. With a little extra hope, prayer and faith, we will get her home.


And by the way, thank Mariela for the little gift of the flu that I got to bring home with me. I still wouldn't trade it for the millions of kisses we got to share over the past week.
